They provided a great kids’ menu, crayons, and paper for my three-year-old, who loved the mariachis interacting with her. The food was delicious, the location perfect, and the décor beautiful. The only downside was that the mariachi show was very short just two or three songs. It would be great if they played more often or let guests request extra songs. Highly recommend

We reserved ahead, with credit card, and had a nice table. Service was swift, a bit chaotic, but everything you ask appears seconds later.
The food was very enjoyable, although the menu was not looking that special. We made good choices, also for the wine.
Mariachi and mayan primates steal the show. 🥳
We saw the place refilled while we were there. Don't know their secret, cause food/price wise you get better choices in my opinion. But certainly a great night out.

So that’s exactly what we did the next night and boy did it not disappoint. We were seated by our waiter Giovanny who was nothing but kind and animated with us. I explained we were celebrating our anniversary and he immediately started to get us in a festive mood. First he called over the mixologist as we were having a bit of trouble deciding what to drink. The mixologist came over with full liquor cart in tow and started to craft specialized drinks for my wife and I. The drinks came out amazing and to our taste, already a great start! Then we ordered our main course, I had the Ribeye that came cooked to perfection with a large bone marrow for presentation and a hit of opulence, my wife had the Mexican Penne Pasta. Both dishes were excellent however the pasta was not to my wife’s liking, she though it was accompanied by a cream sauce but it was more of a butter sauce. Regardless Giovanny offered to replace the dish but we declined as my wife had ate some, I tasted it and though it was very tasty. During our dinner we experienced romantic music from a live guitarist playing authentic Mexican music, there was a special show put on by these amazing performers dressed as ancient Mayan warriors. Needless to say it was an experience like no other, I don’t remember the last time I had such a great time out eating with my wife. We paid around $4,000 mxn which included a 25% gratuity we wanted to give Giovanny for the amazing service. The manager also came over several times to make sure we were having a great time. Overall Porfirio’s was a hit and we will definitely be recommending it to all our friends and family that visit Playacar! So if your by the area don’t hesitate to come here, you will not regret it!

Of all the restaurants we went to, this was by far the worst dining experience of our entire trip.
Food: we ordered the guacamole and calamari for our appetizers. They were fine. Nothing particularly special though. The guacamole had a few too many extras like radishes, onions and cilantro crowding the bowl. It made the guac awkward to eat. The calamari was unremarkable. I’ve had much better in San Francisco, CA. For my main course I had the chicken enchiladas, which were actually good.
Service: here’s where things fell apart. Our waiter seemed rushed and distracted from the moment we sat down. He never asked us what we wanted to drink when taking our order. I had to tell him I wanted a lemonade on my own. He tried to upsell me into a cocktail, but I don’t drink alcohol. We asked to see the dessert menu at the start of our meal so we could decide what we wanted ahead of time. He never brought it and had to be reminded. He left our empty appetizer plates in front of us, in spite of walking by several times and seeing them clearly ready to be bussed. After we finished our main courses, they cleared our plates, but he never asked me if i wanted a drink refill even after seeing my empty lemonade glass. Then we sat at our table (with nothing in front of us) for about 15 minutes, and our waiter walked by several times and ignored us. He never offered us dessert and instead attentively waited on his two other tables, still ignoring us. eventually, I asked for the check, which was brought by someone else. At this point I had decided not to give a tip due to the poor service. But before I paid, I asked another staff member to call our waiter over. Rather than just leaving without giving him a tip, I wanted to tell him exactly WHY I was not giving a tip. I told him everything I explained here, and he seemed confused and taken aback at my directness. He stumbled through some non-response, but I was not really listening at that point since I was so disappointed and irritated.
Atmosphere: the atmosphere is usually better. Usually Porfirio’s plays good house music and/or pleasant EDM. On the night we went, they played terrible latin pop songs way too loud. My friend and I had to yell to hear each other.
Overall: I have been to the Porfirio’s in Cancun a few times and had an amazing experience each time. That is why this was such a let down to come to this location in PDC and have the opposite experience. I am usually an overly generous tipper (e.g., i will give 20-25% if service is decent or good), and I am pretty forgiving of imperfect service a restaurants. But the litany of poor customer service missteps was too much for me to tolerate. This was an unpleasant experience, not because our waiter was rude, but because he ignored us as if we were not even there.

We asked 3 different members of staff if we could use the ticket for drinks, they all said yes and double checked with extra staff. But when it came time to pay we were told we couldn’t use our drink ticket. I’m not sure what the manager was thinking trying to embarrass us and his own staff after we asked about the drink tickets multiple times. What a way to ruin an overall great experience.
On our first visit the Mexican food here was amazing, some of the best we’ve had! The pork belly was so crispy and delicious and the shrimp was cooked to perfection. Such a lovely atmosphere and beautifully designed indoor/outdoor space. The staff are very attentive. Mauro and Charly really elevated our experience. We will definitely be back.
